The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown supports measures to solve regional problems and promote joint participation of governmental units to provide services.
LAND USE
POSITION adopted in 1971, revised in 1987
The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown encourages the use by political subdivisions of planned goals and objectives for wise use of land as a means of achieving a sound land use policy.
At the 2007 Annual Meeting, membership approved an Update to the Land Use position.
SERVICE AGENCIES AND COMMISSIONS
POSITION adopted 1975, 1986, revised in 1988
The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown advocates that boards of service agencies and commissions which are publicly funded should have a reasonable percentage of consumer representation, geographic representation, and representation from a cross-section of the community.
CITY OF YOUNGSTOWN HUMAN RELATIONS COMMISSION
POSITION adopted 1985
The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown supports the Human Relations Commission of Youngstown. We believe that all levels of government share the responsibility to provide equality of opportunity for employment and housing for all persons in the United States.
At the 2007 Annual Meeting, membership approved an Update to the City of Youngtown Human Relations position.
CASINO GAMBLING IN MAHONING COUNTY
POSITION adopted October 1996
The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown opposes casino gambling in Mahoning County.
MAHONING COUNTY COURT SYSTEM -- JUROR POOL
POSITION adopted 1985
The League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown supports the expansion of the pool of potential jurors as permitted by state law; this expansion should improve not only the delivery of justice, but the perception of justice in Mahoning County. Because this update was not accomplished, it is again being recommended for adoption.
RECOMMENDED NEW STUDY
MAHONING COUNTY GOVERNMENT STRUCTURE
In light of recent discussion by Mahoning County Commissioners and others, the Board recommends adoption of a study of Mahoning County government structure.
